From classical lunchtime concerts to weekend DJ sets, there’s plenty of music events going on this October. Here are our top picks for the month:

London Piano Festival

When:
3rd-7th October
Where:
King’s Place, London
What:
The third annual London Piano Festival will pay homage to Claude Debussy in his centenary year with many of his masterpieces, and a special lecture/recital by Paul Roberts. The main event is the Two-Piano Marathon, which will see six pianists team up to present a huge range of repertoire from Brahms to Thomas Adès. There will also be a family concert from Alexandra Dariescu, who will bring her enchanting multi-media show ‘The Nutcracker and I’, complete with live ballerina and animations.

Herts Jazz Festival

Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire
What:
Festival-goers will be able to experience some fantastic jazz music and film screenings in a newly refurbished theatre, as well as the vibrant atmosphere of the town.

BBC Radio 3 Lunchtime Concerts, London

When:
Various Thursdays throughout the year at 1pm
Where:
Barbican, London
What:
BBC Radio 3 Lunchtime Concerts take place on various Thursdays throughout the year and feature the finest chamber music performances from established performers and up-and-coming artists alike.

Divine Fire, Southbank

When:
6th October
Where:
Southbank Centre, London
What:
Vladimir Jurowski conducts two startlingly original ballet scores from Stravinsky and Beethoven, performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. There’s also a pre-concert talk from music writer Philip Clark and composer Christopher Fox at 6.15pm which is free to attend.
